Company Overview
Small Door is membership-based veterinary care designed with human standards that is better for pets, pet parents, and our medical staff alike.
We designed a reimagined veterinary experience via a membership that includes exceptional care, 24/7 telemedicine, and transparent pricing - delivered with modern hospitality in beautiful spaces designed by animal experts to be stress-free. We opened our flagship location in Manhattan's West Village in 2020 as proof of concept, and have continued our expansion into Boston and Washington, DC.
Company History
Small Door began with a simple goal: to deliver superior veterinary care for pets while providing a personalized, modern, and convenient experience for pet parents.
The typical veterinary practice today is antiquated. One of our founders learned this first hand after his boxer, Morris, came down with a mystery stomach ailment. He visited eight vet clinics in search of a diagnosis, racking up thousands of dollars in bills as Morris withstood one test — and cheerless waiting room — after another. Same-day appointments were rarely available and medical records were closely guarded. What's more, he could never communicate directly with a doctor, by phone or otherwise.
We're changing all of that.
Our founders envisioned a different sort of veterinary experience that combines modern technology with warm hospitality and a commitment to transparency. And, most importantly, integrative and reliable care for pets like Morris, who, after finally receiving a diagnosis and treatment, returned to his happy life playing tug-of-war and bodysurfing ocean waves.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is the only organization that officially accredits veterinary practices in the US. As an accredited practice, we hold ourselves to a higher standard, and are routinely tested on over 900 different measures relating to the quality of care we provide to pets. We're proud to be amongst only 12-15% of hospitals with this honor.
As a Public Benefit Corporation, we're not all about profit. As part of our founding charter, we commit to operating in ways that make the world a better place in concrete, measurable terms.
Small Door is a Certified B Corporation, which means we're held to a rigorous standard of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and accountability.
Our team members are Fear Free Certified, which means they've all undergone intensive training courses to learn how to modify procedures, handling and our facilities to make pets feel safer and more comfortable at their appointments.
